Gerry (Ged) Gleeson was born in the City of Bendigo in Central Victoria, Australia. He studied accountancy at university which eventually lead him to initially work as an auditor for an international accountancy firm in Melbourne, Australia. Gerry quickly realised (became aware) that he was not suited for working 8 hours a day in an office environment for the rest of his life, so after only a year working as an auditor, Gerry quit. Along with a couple of university mates, he travelled to Western Australia to work as a Hotel/Motel Manager at large hotels and after a couple of years, worked his way in the Mining industry in WA.

It was during this time, thousands of kilometres away from his family, that Gerry began to ‘let go’ of religion in that traditional sense of having to attend Church every Sunday. He was becoming aware that it was okay not to attend church now that he was away from the traditional family environment, where attending Sunday mass had been the norm. He became aware that you could communicate directly with God/Spirit/Source (whatever you believed in) at any time, 24/7, regardless of where you are in your life. Gerry also now realised for the first time that it was possible to develop his own beliefs about life and not just accept living his life based on the beliefs of others. (i.e. his parents, teachers, bosses, the church, etc).

For Gerry, this truly was his first experience with the freedom of choice. The freedom to make one’s own choice about what’s right and wrong, how to build meaningful relationships, who to learn from, to be personally responsible for his own life, to choose his own mentors, to know what was or was not important in life, and to not take life for granted.

After three years of working in the Mining sector, Gerry spent some years in Real Estate Sales and Management in South East Queensland, Australia, and shortly after, he and his future wife, Liz, invested their life savings in purchasing and successfully operating an accommodation business in Byron Bay, Australia for 13 years.

Gerry always had an intense interest in people and it was during those 13 years of dealing with people from all walks of life daily that he developed a keen interest in ’spirituality’, Buddhism, and life in general. He subsequently read and studied widely on these subjects. It was also during this period of his life that he became aware that many of us neglect a vital part of who we are (Body/Mind/Spirit). Many spend time concentrating on the Body and the Mind, but only a few nurture their Spirit. It is a belief similarly shared by many spiritual/inspirational authors/mentors that Gerry has advocated throughout his new book.

And that strong belief is that, to manifest lasting happiness, inner peace and contentment into one’s life, one must learn the importance of developing the daily practice of LOOKING WITHIN! The secrets to living a happy and contented life are deep within each of us.

And to this day, Gerry lives by the following quote which he has expressed numerous times throughout the book:

It matters little what others say or think of me,

it matters much what I say and think of myself.

People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used.
